Julien Le Roy, Paris, No. 2931, hallmarked 1753-54.Very fine and rare 18K gold, à toc quarter repeating watch. Double-body, Louis XV, engine turned in a basket-weave pattern. White enamel with Roman hour chapter, outer Arabic minute ring. Gilt brass dial ring "a bate levée" engraved: Inventé par Jul. Le Roy en 1740. Gold "Louis XV" hands. Notes David Hubertis listed in the Baillie as an eminent maker, he entered the Clockmakers' Company in 1743. He was succeeded by Joseph Barnes, circa 1747.
