David Williams Mahogany Tall Clock, Newport, Rhode Island, c. 1800, the case with pierced fret above the freestanding columns flanking the arched and glazed hood door, painted Roman numeral iron dial marked David Williams Newport , raised gilt spandrels, moon's age in arch, seconds dial, and date aperture, all above the fluted corner columns flanking the cockbeaded and crossbanded waist door, sitting on flared French feet, eight-day time and strike movement, wood pendulum rod and two tin-cased weights, ht. 89 in. Note: David Williams (1769-1823) worked in Newport c. 1800-1823. Working in Providence as well, his name appears on tall clocks, patent timepieces, shelf clocks and watches.
