Small Eleven-star First National Confederate Flag, c. 1861, hand-sewn red, white, and red-striped field, a blue canton with white embroidered yarn stars, and a white cotton hoist, and a testament from H.B. Wallis, flag ht. 12 1/2, wd. 16 1/2 in. Note: Also included with this lot is a note that reads "This flag was taken from a Rebel Soldier in Baltimore by Joe Stone and given to H.B. Wallis in july 31-1862 during the Civil War. The 11 stars on the flag represent the first 11 regiments of the southern armys this is a true Rebel flag one of the first-made. HB Wallis enlisted in Co E. 8th Regiment-in July of 1861- Joseph Stone enlisted for 3 months in the 59th Mass Regiment and never returned-Feb 12-1936 this flag was given to Carol M. Merrow great nephew by marriage by H.B. Wallis for him to preserve and keep as long as he lives and promised by him to do so. witness Mrs M.E.W. Clark."
