Framed Needlework Memorial to Susanna Smith, probably Rhode Island, 1801, worked in silk threads on a fine linen ground, centering a willow tree and a monument with obelisk and urn above the stitched memorial inscription, with painted sky above, 15 x 18 1/4 in. , in a black-painted frame (tears and spots of foxing to paper sky, needlework slightly faded but in good condition). Note: Susanna Smith was likely Susanna Tillinghast before her marriage to John Wilson Smith, of Providence, Rhode Island. Susanna was the daughter of Nicholas Tillinghast, also of Providence.
