Framed Needlework Memorial, "Sacred to the Memory of Mr. Elijah Dudley/Obit. Sep. 7th 1805 AEt. 41," silk, wool, and chenille threads on a silk ground over linen, with painted background and ink inscriptions on cut-out paper, the work depicting a landscape with a woman grieving beside an urn-topped monument under a weeping willow beside a mountain lake, a church in the distance, (fading, toning, minor stitch losses), dia. 21 1/2 in., in a later round painted gesso frame with raised grapevine motif. The needlework is rectangular in form and is placed on a round panel under a round frame. The corners are present on the back of the work, but the round framing was done some time ago. The stitch losses are primarily on the lower third area with a few small scattered spots of losses in the grasses and foliage.
