George Grosz (German/American, 1893-1959) A New York Street Signed "GROSZ" l. r., inscribed "Street scene...G" along the lower edge, titled on a partial label affixed to the frame backing. Watercolor, gouache, and ink on paper, 9 1/16 x 5 15/16 in. (23.0 x 15.0 cm), framed. Condition: Mounted to pressed paperboard, toning, adhesive residue near u.r. and l.r. corners, soiling to u.l. corner, fox mark or small stain u.l. Provenance: Collection of Lydia Winston Malbin, Birmingham, Michigan; Albert Landry, London Arts Incorporated, New York; private collection, New Jersey; by descent to the current private collection, Massachusetts. N.B. An invoice from London Arts Incorporated, New York, dated April 9, 1970, accompanies the lot. Ralph Jentsch has reviewed the work and confirmed that it is an original by George Grosz. It will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of works on paper by Grosz. A photo certificate from Dr. Jentsch accompanies the lot. Estimate $4,000-6,000 The board is inscribed "12267" on the reverse. THere are no further condition issues to report. The frame measures 17 1/2 x 14 1/4 x 1 1/2 in.
