School of Albrecht Dürer (German, 1471-1528) St. Sebald in the Niche, 1518 (Meder, p. 196 c/c). Dated within the matrix. Woodcut on laid paper with a shield watermark, image size 11 7/8 x 8 1/4 in. (30.1 x 20.9 cm), framed. Condition: Margins approximately 1/2 in., central horizontal crease (with just perceptible breaks to ink) with repaired tear near right side, gently light-stained, pencil annotations, old hinges, and collector's mark (see below) to verso. Provenance: Ex-collection of Abraham G. Gerson (Austrian, d. 1904) print wholesaler in Vienna (Lugt, L.1156a). Estimate $400-600 The sheet is an early to mid-16th century paper, and measures 12 5/8 x 9 3/8 in. There are some minor retouches to the borderline.
