Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword Identified to Lieutenant Josiah F. Kennison, 28th Massachusetts Volunteers, c. 1861, brass hilt with foliate designs, shagreen grip with twisted brass wire, steel blade (some rust), leather scabbard with brass fittings, throat engraved "Lieut. J.F. Kennison/28th Regt. M.V./from the/Old Boston City Guards/Dec. 17th, 1861," blade lg. 29, overall lg. 36 in. Note: Lieutenant Kennison was a member of the famed "Irish Brigade" at Antietam and Fredericksburg. He was honorably discharged due to health issues in 1863. Estimate $700-900 Hilt is a little bit lose on the blade, the blade has some rust but has never been cleaned or buffed, scabbard is fragile but intact, and the drag may be a period replacement.
