Michele Renault (French, 18th Century) and John Nelson Shanks (American, 1937�2015) Ship Erie of New York and Portrait of Gregory Cooper oil on masonite and oil on canvas the first signed M Renault (lower right), the second unsigned First: 22 1/2 x 35 inches; second: 30 x 40 inches. Both in good condition; some cloudiness to the varnish of the portrait. Scratches, dust, very mild craquelure and minor frame abrasions consistent with age. Examination of Erie painting under UV light caused the right edge and the bottom edge to fluoresce, but away from the ship itself.
