Both oil on paper, sizes to 16 x 21 in. (40.6 x 53.3 cm), unframed. Condition: Both with gentle toning, tape residue to reverse, Vaditos with small stain l.r. corner. Provenance: By descent in the artist's family to the Fuller Museum of Art (Gift of the artist's husband, Dr. Robert Barstow), Brockton, Massachusetts, to the New Britain Museum of American Art. Marion Huse is associated primarily with New England, but in the fall of 1937 she made an excursion to New Mexico, driving cross-country to spend several weeks in Taos. During the trip Huse worked on paper, finding it more practical and portable than canvas. Huse would later revisit the composition of Farm in New Mexico for a serigraph in 1942 (Marion Huse, An Artist's Evolution [cited above], p. 14).
