Needlework Memorial Sampler, "Wrought by Rebekah Richardson Aged 13 yrs/Woburn July 1808," Massachusetts, worked in silk threads on a linen ground, an urn-topped monument with inscription "In memory of Thomas Richardson," and a mourning verse, enclosed on three sides by an undulating flowering vine, (toning, moisture stains), 21 1/2 x 17 in. , unframed. Note: A genealogy record indicates Rebekah was born in Woburn, in Middlesex county, Massachusetts July 4 1795, to Thomas and Rebecca (Bucknam) Richardson. She was the first-born of twelve children. The fourth child Thomas, born July 9, 1802, died October 1, 1803, and was memorialized in this sampler. Rebekah married Jesse Converse (b. about 1791) on April 3, 1817 and together they had at least one child, Jesse Gould Converse born November 13, 1820.
