Pietro Saltini (Italian, 1839-1908) At the Breakfast Table Signed "PSaltini" c. r. Oil on canvas, 18 1/2 x 26 in. (47.0 x 66.0 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, scattered retouch, varnish inconsistencies, craquelure. N.B. Florentine artist Pietro Saltini studied with Agostino Lessi, Raffaello Martini, and Pollastrini. One of the leading Italian genre painters of his generation, Saltini's work captures the vitality and emotion of peasant life. The lining is adhered with wax. The retouch is minor dots and dashes. The craquelure is largely stable but has some areas of gentle cupping, primarily near the left edge.
