Independent Split-Center Seconds & Diablotine Julien Mathey, Locle, No. 10034. Made circa 1875. Fine and very rare, 18K yellow gold, two-train, keyless pocket watch with fly-back split independent centre-seconds and 1/4 second Diablotine. To be sold without reserve Four body, massive, "bassine et filets", engine-turned with ribbed borders, button in the band at 10 for the start/stop, at 11 for the split-seconds and start/stop of hands and diablotine by depressing the crown. Hinged gold cuvette with engine-turned border. White enamel with narrow radial Roman numerals, outer minute track with Arabic five-minute numerals, outermost seconds divisions divided into quarter seconds, subsidiary 1/4 second diablotine. Blued steel Breguet hands. Notes The present watch is unusual in that the independent centerseconds can be started and stopped independently of the diablotine by means of the button at 10 o’clock. Both seconds hands and the diablotine can be stopped by depressing the crown.
