BROCOT CARRIAGE CLOCK A LA JAPONAISE Achille Brocot, French, No. 640, retailed by Arthur Jack, Cheltenham. Made in the Japanese taste, circa 1890. Fine and rare, gilt and silvered brass 8-day going, hour and half-hour striking carriage clock with repeating. Multi-piece, “Japonaise”, gilt-brass in the form of a temple, pillars decorated with Japanese motifs and masks with a silvered ground, the sides with panels of silvered and gilt brass chased with Japanese fi gures amongst bamboo foliage, hinged handle. Circular annular silvered with radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, dial mask chased with fl owers and bamboo foliage with two quails at the bottom, center to match. Blued steel spade hands. Rectangular brass plates, going barrels for both trains, lateral lever escapement on a silvered platform, notched bimetallic compensation balance with temperature adjustment screws, blued steel fl at balance spring, index regulator, striking and repeating on a gong. Movement punched AB for Achille Brocot. Dim. 15.7 x 11.5 x 9.5 cm. Excluding handle.
