Mottu, Geneva, No,. 21957, circa 1840Fine, 18K gold quarter-repeating watch accompanied by a short gold chain with a key and with book-shaped leather fitted box. four-body, "Empire", polished with engraved unicorn in the center of the back cover with motto "OVER FORK OVER", engine-turned band, gold hinged cuvette. white enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute ring, subsidiary sunk seconds. 40,3mm, frosted gilt metal, bar caliber, 10 jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm gold balance with flat balance-spring, repeating on gongs through a slide in the band.Movement signed.Diam. 46mm Notes Mottuwas a well-known family of watchmakers working in Geneva in the second half of the Nineteenth Century, known, among other things, for supplying movements to E.J. Dent in London. Ad. Mottu, 131 rue des Etuves. 1830 - 1831, was an eminent finisher and maker of balance-springs.
