Arthur Quartley (American, 1839-1886) Rocks Near Gloucester, Mass. Signed indistinctly l.r., titled and signed "...A. Quartley" in pencil on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 12 x 26 in., framed. Condition: Abrasion to l.r. quadrant, rippling, craquelure, surface grime. L-shaped abrasion (3/4 x 1/2 in.), just shy of tearing through the canvas, located l.r. quadrant, 2-1/2 inches up from the bottom and 4-1/2 inches in from the right edge. The pencil inscription on the stretcher is located on the vertical element, left side, when seen from the back of the work.
