Attributed to Henry Arthur Elkins (American, 1847-1884) Mountain Landscape with Deer by a River Signed "Henry. A. E..." l.r. Oil on canvas, 36 x 60 in. (91.4 x 152.4 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, varnish inconsistencies. Several small paint losses lower right within a possible abrasion measuring 2 inches wide and 1/4 inches high overall. Retouch to the sky, with a dense area of dots and dashes in the center in an area measuring 20 x 16 inches. Retouch to upper right quadrant with two horizontal areas measuring 4 1/2 and 4 inches by 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches, surrounded by other dots and dashes of retouch in an overall area measuring 6 x 10 inches. Other retouch including a 4-inch wide area at the top of the waterfall in the center, and a 1-1/2 in. spot in the lower right corner foreground rocks.
