Le Roy à Paris, au ci-devant Palais Royal, No. 3245, bearing the hallmarks for 1798-1809. Fine 18 ct. gold, dumb quarter-repeating watch with Republican calendar. Double body, Directoire, polished. White enamel with Breguet numerals and gilt inner calendar ring on 30 days. Blued-steel Breguet hands. Hinged gilt brass dust-cap. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock pierced and engraved with the monogram "L. R.", polished steel end-piece. Repeating on the case with two hammers, by depressing the pendant. Signed on the dial, the dial plate, the dust cap and the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 59 mm. Notes This watch was made soon after the end of the " Terreur". The Palais Royal, of which the name had been changed during that troubled period, to become Palais Egalité, had not, as yet, regained its original name but it was already no longera crime to engrave it on a watch.
