Higgs y Evans, Londres, No. 14351, made for the Spanish Market, circa 1780. Fine 18 ct. gold and enamel, pair cased half-quarter repeating watch. Double body outer, Louis XVI, the bezels with white champleve enamelled decoration, the back panel of mauve translucent enamel over engineturning, centred with a fine painted enamel scene of a loving couple in classical dress, engraving their linked initials on a tree trunk (very slightly scratched), within a white enamel pearl frame. Inner double body, bassine, the band pierced and engraved with a mask and foliage, the back engraved with a crest. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Gold "poker and beetle" hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass English cock with ruby end-stone. Repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Gilt brass dust cap. Signed on the dial, dust cap and back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 48 mm.
