Mahogany Quarter-Chiming Spanish Market Bracket Clock with Automaton by David Evans, London, c. 1790, with 8-inch brass, enameled and painted dial signed Higgs, y Diego Evans Londres , Roman numerals, proper right subsidiary dial with three selections, Cucu y Tocar, Cucu and Tocar , proper left subsidiary dial with Musica and Silencio , applied brass spandrels and painted scene in the arch depicting a red barn with thatched roof and door which swings open to reveal a cuckoo sounding the hour, eight-day time, strike and quarter chime on eight bells, verge escapement, two bellows in the base for cuckoo sound and pull quarter repeat on command, ht. 24 1/2 in. No significant repairs, restoration or replacements. On bellow with replaced leather, repaired loss on enameled dial around strike winding hole, case and brass hardware in old surface, movement in clean and running condition.
