Abbott Fuller Graves (American, 1859-1936) Still Life with Roses Signed "Graves" l. r., inscribed "THIS FLOWER PIECE WAS PRESENTED BY THE ARTIST ABBOTT GRAVES TO MR AND MRS EDWARD J. EGAN ABOUT 1891" on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 18 x 30 in. (45.7 x 76.2 cm), framed. Condition: Craquelure, patch reinforcement, retouch, varnish inconsistencies. The retouch includes much of the craquelure, the repair and broad strokes throughout the composition, but is executed very professionally. The craquelure is stable but visible and some has a subtle suggestion of cupping. There is a small reinforcing patch on the reverse, 3/4 in. x 1 in. in size, located in the lower left quadrant. The tacking edge on the right side is weakened with small areas of canvas loss along the lower right corner.
