Abbott Fuller Graves (American, 1859-1936) Hollyhocks Signed "Abbott Graves" l. l. Oil on board, 18 x 18 in. (45.7 x 45.7 cm), framed. Condition: Good. Provenance: A private collection. N.B. Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Graves developed an early interest in flowers after working in a greenhouse. By 1884, he was studying floral painting in Paris, a city he would return to many times during his career. He moved to Boston for a few years to teach at the Cowles Art School, before returning to Paris in 1887 to attend the Academie Julian. Graves was a member of the National Academy, the Salmagundi Club, the American Art Association of Paris, and the Boston Art Club.
