Patent Timepiece or "Banjo" Clock, Attributed to Elnathan Taber, Roxbury Village/Boston Neck, c. 1815, mahogany case with crossbanded frames enclosing reverse-painted glasses, the waist glass marked Willard's Patent , the lower depicting seven ships in battle, shield-shaped pendulum aperture surmounted by an eagle with outstretched wings and marked Perry's Victory , brass side ornaments and bezel, painted iron dial with Arabic numerals and eight-day time-only movement with "T-bridge" suspension, step train, recoil escapement, and through bolt attachment to case, pendulum and lead weight, (imperfections), ht. 34 in. Literature: Paul J. Foley, Willard's Patent Timepieces , pp. 38-42. Throat glass is a probable old replacement, in-painting on losses on lower tablet, dial numerals strengthened, hour hand repaired.
