Late Federal Four Piece Coin Silver Tea Set, Philadelphia, John McMullin, maker, c. 1830, comprising lobed ovoid teapot with fruitwood handle, and covered sugar urn with angular handles, both with peaked lids with stylized feather cluster finials, with navette-shaped waste bowl, and ovoid creamer, all bright cut with band of acorns and acanthus leaves and on short stems with paneled bases, with small monogram, teapot ht. 8 1/4 in., approx. 59 troy oz. total. Provenance: Harriet Ashton Crosby, nee Clarkson, of Philadelphia, granddaughter of William Floyd, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Correct silver weight is 59 troy oz. sugar: lid finial compressed onto lid very slightly. creamer: with small compression crease and thin crack in metal at horizontal band of body, and with significant loss to engraving at the band. teapot: handle with a natural flaw line at top. all pieces with some scattered light pinpoint dings to lobing, and wear to engraving from usage wear/cleaning.
