Needlework Pictorial Sampler, "Maria Gulielma Atkinson/Her Sampler August 6 1800," worked in silk threads on wool gauze, with a rectangular reserve depicting a woman leaning against an anchor, the symbol of hope, over a pious verse surrounded by flower and bird motifs, above a floral swag dividing the lower register depicting Adam and Eve and the tree with encircling serpent, flanked by animals and trees and the verse from Genesis chapter 3 verse 13, all enclosed in a geometric flowering vine, (light toning, losses to background fabric, light stain u. r.), 16 1/2 x 12 in., in a molded mahogany frame.
