Polychrome Carved Indian Princess Tobacconist Figure, possibly Pennsylvania, mid to late 19th century, in a feathered headdress, wearing a necklace, costume and robe, holding tobacco leaves in both hands, a metal ribbon affixed to base lettered "WYOMISSING," some old repaint, ht. including base 53 in. Note: Wyomissing, in Berks County, Pennsylvania, was originally inhabited by Lenape (Delaware) Native American tribe. The name "Wyomissing" in the Delaware language means "the land of the flats."
