William Morris Hunt (American, 1824-1879) Children at the Edge of a Copse. Monogrammed "WMH" l.l., stamped or inscribed "SALE/W.M. HUNT" on a label (now detached) from Williams & Everett, Boston, which has been over-stamped "Robert C. Vose/Importer and Dealer in Paintings/Boston," affixed to the frame backing. Possible lithograph or other planographic print process on laid paper, sight size 6 5/8 x 7 5/8 in., framed. Condition: Toning, minor staining and accretions, not examined out of frame. N.B. When the frame was later opened, it was found that the paper had been laid down on cardboard support. The image, which had been through to be in charcoal, appears to be in ink. The actual sheet size is 7 x 8 1/4 inches. The Williams & Everett company was an art gallery in Boston that handled original works of art as well as prints and engravings. Between the backing board and mat was found a section of the Boston Globe dated Friday, November 27, 1903.
