Maitland-Smith (American, founded 1985), contemporary. A lacquered and hand painted bombe form commode or chest, model #5043-054, having a serpentine molded top over the conforming case with three long drawers and a deep scrolling skirt raised on slightly splayed legs. The whole having a multi-layer finish, the top and front painted with decorative urn within a scrolling foliate border united by a shell and acanthus. The molded edge of top with continuos painted decoration of leaf tips. The top drawer retains Maitland-Smith brass plaque. The backside of commode marked in white paint 'Hand Painted Maitland-Smith' along with brass plaque 'Maitland-Smith Made in Philippines'. Approximate height 31.75", width 43.25", depth 23".
