French School, 18th Century Portrait of Anthony or Francois de Martelly, Le Comte of Toulons Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 31 x 25 in. (78.7 x 63.5 cm), framed. Condition: Canvas laid down on panel, retouch and new varnish applied. N.B. The lot is accompanied by family papers from the previous owner, describing the ancestry of the de Martelly family and a letter stating the work was acquired by the artist John Stockton deMartelly in the late 1950s along with a collection of family portraits relating to the Stockton and deMartelly families.
