A compact, high backed desk created for letter writing among ladies, the Bonheur du Jour derives its name, translating to happiness of the day, from its nature as a fashionable and of-the-moment piece of furniture. writing desk with mirror and six drawers, of dark wood arranged with decorative grain pattern, decorated with floral wood inlay marquetry in a contrasting shade on the drawers, gilt trim with black enamel tabletop, gilt bronze railing surrounding upper shelves of the desk on three sides, height: 131.7 cm, width: 85.5 cm, depth: 53.7 cm (21 1/8 in.)
