An elaborate persimmon silk velvet cape worn by Claudette Colbert in Cecil B. DeMille's Cleopatra (Paramount, 1934). The cape has gold lamé lotus flowers and foliage appliqué, gold bullion cording trim, and a burgundy crepe lining. When Colbert wears the cape in the film, it has to be carried down the stairs by seven handmaidens. Costume design by Travis Banton.
