Rising Card “machine”. London, John Martin, ca. 1940. Selected cards rise from a pack isolated in a highball glass. Complete with covering card, tension plate and intricate mechanical pack. Incorporated in to the clockwork mechanism is a time delay feature, allowing for a pause of several seconds between the rise of each card. Pack measures 2 ¼ x 3 ½ x 5/8”. Hallmarked. Rubber wheels dried, extremities show wear, otherwise good working condition. This prop was owned and used by British Music Hall magician Howard DeCourcy, most famous for his routine with his pet canary named Garbo.
