English, circa 1859. A fine Georgian tortoise shell veneered with silver piping double tea-caddy having a pagoda style hinged lid opening to an interior fitted with a central crystal mixing bowl flanked to each side by a tortoiseshell veneered covered compartment, the double rounded body on rectangular base with four button feet. Note: Original manufacturer's card rolled up and concealed behind the right front central corner under velvet. Card states 'W. WHIFFIN, Tortoise-shell Worker in General, 38 CHARLES STREET, HORSELYDOWN, SOUTHWARK, December 1859, Tea Caddies, Jewel Boxes, Needle Cases, Card Cases, Hair Brushes'. Approximate height 7.5", base width 10.75", base depth 6.25".
