Buffalo Scale Company (American, founded 1860), circa fourth quarter 19th century. Mercantile iron and wood platform scale with 400 pound capacity having a gilt metal beam stamped to one end 'Buffalo Scale Co, Patented Oct 25th, 1870, July 14 1874, February 10, 1880'. Also hung with metal sign having raised letters in gold 'Buffalo' supported by a rectangular beam on cast iron base inscribed Buffalo Scale Company, Buffalo, NY, the sides with faded stencil painted 'Buffalo' on cast iron rolling base. Approximate height 57.6", base width 19", base depth 33".
