John William Edy (Danish, 1760-1820), After Thomas Whitcombe (British, 1763–1824) Two Prints: The Cutting of the Spanish (late his Majesty's) Frigate the Hermione, out of Porto Cavallo, on the Spanish Main and The Cutting of the Spanish (late his Majesty's) Frigate the Hermione out of Porto Cavallo. Titled and inscribed within the plates. Hand-colored aquatints with etching and engraving, image sizes 17 x 27 in. (43.0 x 68.5 cm), unframed. Condition: Soiling, scattered abrasions, staining, old tears to margins, both laid down on matboard support. N.B. The second print, published by John Harris, London, 1800, bears the dedication to "Captain Sir Edward Hamilton, Baronet, the Officers and Crew, of his Majesty's Ship The Surprise," which took the British vessel Hermione back from the Spanish.
