Sebastiano Serlio (Italian, 1475-c. 1554) Design for a Renaissance Doorway, from Extraordinario libro di architettura di Sebastiano Serlio, published in Venice in 1568 by Appresso Giouambattista, Marcho Sessa & fratelli. Unsigned, identified in a photocopy of the book's title page and on a label from Giovanni Baccani Galleria Artistica Fiorentina, both affixed to the frame backing paper. Hand-colored etching on paper, plate size 11 3/8 x 7 5/8 in. (29.0 x 19.5 cm), framed. Condition: Pale foxing, staining, rippling, not examined out of frame. Estimate $100-200 The etching is framed so that the edges of the sheet are visible. The sheet measures approximately 13 3/8 x 9 3/8 in. The staining is more pronounced at the l.r. corner. Judging from the rippling, the work is probably affixed to the back mat at the corners and at intervals along the perimeter of the reverse. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact.
