Julien Le Roy Quarter-hour Striking Coach Watch, Paris, first half 18th century, 3 1/4-in. porcelain dial with concentric circles denoting the arabic numeral minutes, day of the month, roman numeral hours, and arabic numeral alarm indicators, pierced and gilt hour and minute hands, with blued month and alarm hands, swag-decorated engraved bezel with strike/silent lever above the reading on edge "Schlagt Schlagt Nicht" (Striking/Not Striking), plates engraved "Julien Le Roy Paris," with engraved silvered regulator and pierced balance cock, three finely engraved spring barrels, Egyptian pillars, front-set hands, chain-fusee time, alarm and calendar movement, housed in an enameled faux tortoiseshell outer case, overall dia. 5 in. Provenance: The estate of Elizabeth M. Ames. Estimate $4,000-6,000 small loss to dial between the 50-55 and 20-25 minute markings, movement complete but not currently functioning.
