1812 Silver Captain Isaac Hull "U. S.S. Constitution vs. HMS Guerriere" Medal Presented by Congress to Lieutenant George C. Read, Julian NA-12, bust of Hull on the obverse, the reverse with scene depicting the battle of the Constitution and Guerriere, the edge engraved "Presented by CONGRESS to Lt. George C. Read for his gallantry good conduct & services in the action with the British Frigate Guerriere.," with leather, pasteboard and silk presentation case, dia. 64.9 mm. Provenance: The collection of Nicholas A. Penachio. Note: George C. Read (1788-1862) began his naval service aboard the USS Constitution in 1806 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1810. He served aboard the ship with Commodore Isaac Hull taking part in the action in which the British warship HMS Guerriere was defeated. Lt. Read was detailed by Hull to board the ship and accept its surrender.
