Sold for:
$3,500

Anthony Stanley, Dublin, 1714 having a scalloped rim over the ribbed body centered by an engraved coat of arms, the shield decorated with three naiant Pikes. marked on underside 14 ozt 6 dwts Diameter 8 3/4 inches. Property from the Estate of Nadine P. Martens, Glen Ellyn, Illinois Engraved coat of arms probably not contemporary; center of bowl feels "thinner" than outer edge, and coat of arms is engraved with too precise a technique for 1714 (one would expect shorter, less precise cuts on engraving from 1714. The arms also do not show the amount of rubbing and wear that one would expect if they had been there since 1714.). Good condition overall; minor dents and surface scratches consistent with age.
