French, mid 19th century. A pair of moderator lamps, each with a Japanese export porcelain base, having a tapered and banded urn form, in a metallic green glaze, decorated with gilt flowers and butterflies, flanked on either side by a gilt metal elephant mask handles, resting on four shaped claw feet and a footed base, topped with a converted oil burner by James Hinks & Son (English, 1850s-1920s). Oil burners stamped "Hinks & Son Patent". Approximate height (to finial) 31.5", width 9", depth 9".
