An L&H Nathan Ltd. costumers delivery receipt, dated October 25, 1968. The Mothers of Invention is named as the production title on the receipt, which notes that the costumes were sent to promoter Joe Lustig. The Mothers of Invention was on its second European tour in October 1968, and on October 25, the band performed at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The band hired members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra to perform some of Frank Zappa's recently written chamber music with them that night. An album was later released of the concert called Ahead of Their Time (Barking Pumpkin, 1993). Some of the characters in the performance were the Mexican Pope and the Phantom of the Opera. Some of the costumes listed on the receipt can be seen in the filmed concert. The receipt is housed in a frame and hung in Zappa’s home studio office. 18 3/4 by 12 3/4 inches, framed Categories: Frank Zappa
