William Matthew Prior (Massachusetts, Maine, 1806-1873) Portrait of a Man with an Earring in Front of a Window Unsigned. Oil on canvas, the man wears a gold hoop earring, black tie, red-brown jacket, and jeweled gold fob, a green tablecloth and red books behind him, and seascape visible through the open window ornamented with fluted column and red tasseled drapery, 27 x 22 in., in a black-painted and gilt frame. Condition: Patch at lower center near two small areas of inpaint, spots of inpaint to background and at some edges.
