Engraved by James Heath (English, 1757-1834) after the painting by Benjamin West (English, 1738-1820). "The Death of Lord Viscount Nelson", colored engraving, published 1811 in London, England. Engraving depicts the final moments of Horatio Nelson, British Flag Officer in the Royal Navy, at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 during the Napoleonic Wars. Nelson is seen on a ship's deck being cradled by three of his men as a battle rages on around them. Inscribed below image lower left "Painted by B West Presid of the Royal Academy" and lower right "Engraved by Ja Heath Historical Engraver". Framed approximately 34" x 39.5", sight size approximately 19.5" x 24.5".
