Portrait Jumeau Bebe Mabel Rose Welch II with Original Wardrobe, France, c. 1880, doll with extreme almond shaped hand-cut eyes, blue spiral irises, closed mouth, soft coloring (very minor specks in bisque, small raised pinhead pimple at corner of mouth, bit of waxy substance on bottom left eyelid), original skin wig never removed, indecipherable head mark, fully articulated eight-ball composition body stamped Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris; doll is named for her original owner, Mabel Rose Welch, who obtained the doll while on a European trip with her parents; the wardrobe consists of original items plus some added by later owners, including seven dresses and a coat, primarily commercially made, one maroon cotton-backed satin, navy wool with red piping, an aqua ribbed silk, cotton frocks, a cocoa brown coat, three hats, a bonnet, undergarments, leg warmers, muff, accessories, dark brown ankle-strap shoes and white leather shoes marked Jumeau, (some repair, replaced toe ornamentation), and her trunk, doll ht. 14 in.
