Cary 12-inch Celestial Globe, with cartouche Cary's New Celestial Globe on which are correctly laid down upwards of 3500 Stars Selected from the most accurate observations and calculated for the Year 1800. With the extent of each Constellation precisely defined by McGilpin of the Royal Society , made up of twelve engraved and lightly hand-colored gores laid to the celestial poles, the Ecliptic divided by individual days and the names of the months in Latin, the Equinoctial by hours and degrees in Roman and Arabic numerals respectively, the four colures by degrees 0-90 in quadrants, with Constellations depicted as mythical beasts, figures, objects and instruments with their Latin names, the stars numbered and represented to the seventh magnitude and nebulae, the Circulus Arcticus and Antarcticus represented, with engraved brass polar ring, meridian full-circle and paper horizon ring, painted red on the rim, showing the compass points, the Gregorian and Zodiacal calendars and sigils, on ebonized stand with four baluster-turned legs joined by stretchers, ht. 18 1/2 in., (overall good, light scuff mark around part of upper hemisphere, old repaired crack running approx. 3/4 length of Equinoctial, acceptable plaster losses on lower axis, some other smaller abrasions).
