Rare Brass Plain Surveyor's Compass by Zehra Peck, with 5-inch silvered dial signed ZSA Peck , cardinal points engraved in large flowing script, two inset vials, needle ring engraved in individual degrees 0-90 in four quadrants, bezel and socket mount with engine-turned design, screw-thread needle clamp on brass lifting-arm, and shaped limb with two screw-on sight vanes, lg. 13 3/4 x ht. 7 1/2 in., (lacking needle, dial rubbed, one nut replaced). Note: Zehra Peck (c. 1782 - 1858). One other surveyor's instrument recorded by the little-known maker of Newtown, Connecticut, carries the same distinctive engraving on the dial.
