Thirty-eight Assorted Presentation Pieces of Coin, Sterling, and Silver Plate Relating to John Chase, England and America, c. 1846, including coin silver items made by Lincoln & Reed of Boston: coffeepot, teapot, water pitcher, bowl, covered butter dish, sterling silver items including: soup ladle, two serving spoons, and case containing twelve teaspoons and twelve forks; a pair of goblets with an anthemion rim band and gold-washed interiors, London, 1807, the maker likely Charles Hollinshed; two open salts with gold-washed interiors by an unknown maker, each piece with an engraved presentation inscription from the directors of the Springfield Canal Company to John Chase, and dated 1846; together with a round plated footed tray, ht. 1 3/8 -11 5/8 in., approx. 187 weighable troy oz. Provenance: By Family descent to the consignor. Note: According to the genealogy Seven Generations of the Descendants of Aquila and Thomas Chase, John Chase was one of several children born to Ebenezer and Nancy (Parker) Chase, in Dunbarton, New Hampshire. He was born August 19, 1788, and married Nancy Stark in 1815. He was a civil engineer and in 1833, moved to Cabotville (now Chicopee), "where he became an agent of the Springfield Canal Company.
