Attributed to Edward Greene Malbone (American 1777-1807) Pair of Portrait Miniatures of Siblings Henry Hubbard and Mary (Polly) Greene Hubbard Unsigned. The sitters and artist identified in inscriptions on the reverse. Watercolor on ivory, 3 x 2 3/8 in., mounted in an oval copper case, further mounted in deep molded wood frames. Condition: Very good. Note: Inscriptions in different hands on the back of Henry Hubbard's portrait read: "Henry Hubbard son of David and Mary Greene Born 1769 died 1844/Married Mary Chadwick daughter of an Eng. officer of N.Y./Min. by Malbone"; "owner C.W. Hubbard PO Weston Mass Auburn Lane"; and "Henry Hubbard Miniature by Malbone for Aaron Hubbard French a direct descendant". Inscriptions on the reverse of Mary's portrait read: "Mary (Polly) Hu(bbard) daughter of David and Mary Greene- died young- min by Mal(bone) sister of Henry (Hub)bard; "Mary Greene Hubbard/died young/Miniature by Malbone for Aaron Hubbard French".
