Peter Petersen Tofft (American/ English/ Danish, 1825-1901). "Newcastle on Tyne" - 1880, watercolor on paper, signed, dated, and title lower left. Painting depicts a view of Newcastle Upon Tyne, a city in northwestern England, from one end of a cobblestone street with a view of the lantern spire of the 14th century Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas, the street with tall brick buildings to either side, some with open windows and smoking chimneys, with several figures walking on street or occupied in conversation below the canopies. Framed approximately 28.25" x 21.625", sight size approximately 20.5" x 14".
