George Willoughby Maynard (American, 1843-1923) A Refreshing Repast Signed and dated "Geo W Maynard 1876" l. l. Oil on canvas, 39 1/4 x 29 1/2 in. (99.7 x 74.9 cm), framed. Condition: Tears/punctures, scattered retouch, varnish inconsistencies, losses, craquelure with scattered separating, surface grime. The work has an old lining adhered with glue or resin. There is a ragged, vaguely L-shaped tear about 8 inched long c.l.; a 2 inch puncture with loss and a smaller one below it c.r.; plus a 3 inch L-shaped tear l.r. There is retouch, varnish inconsistencies, and surface grime throughout. The area around the signature has been cleaned, and the signature may be reinforced. The craquelure is stable.
